Types of bet

Before you begin a game of Craps, it is important to be aware of the different types of bet you can place throughout the game. There are numerous types of bet in Craps that can be placed at different stages of the game.

Before describing the bets it is important to give a basic understanding of how the game plays out so that bets can be seen in context. Craps is a game of rounds, which consists of two phases commonly referred to as the 'come-out' phase and the 'point' phase

The game starts in the come-out phase with the first roll of the dice known as the come-out. If the round doesn't finish (a 2,3,7,11 or 12 rolled) then a ‘point is established' the point phase proceeds; the point phas only ends when the ‘point' is rolled again or a seven rolled

Pass Line or Win Line Bet

The pass line is the most basic or rudimentary bet, placed by most craps players. This is an even money bet on come-out roll, if roll is 7 or 11 you win, 2,3 or 12 you lose. If it is any other total (a point) then you win if the point is rolled a second time before a seven

The pass or win line bet cannot be placed after a come out roll, this should not be confused with 'Pass Line Odds' or 'Behind the Line' bets which can be placed after a point is established.

Once placed these bets cannot be modified or removed from the table but are either lost or won

Don't Pass or Don't Win Bet

The "don't pass" or "don't win" bet can simply be thought of the reverse of the pass line bet. This bet should again be played on the come-out roll at the beginning of a round, if the roll is a 2 or 3 you win, 7 or 11 you lose and a 12 is a 'push' bet where the stake is returned.

Once placed these bets cannot be modified or removed from the table but are either lost or won.

Come Bet or Come-out Bet

This even money bet is placed after the 'come-out' roll when a point has been established, this bet cannot be placed on the come-out roll. This bet will pay even money if on the next roll a 7 or 11 is thrown or will lose if 2, 3 or 12 are thrown. If any other total is thrown (4,5,6,8,9 or 10) then the bet is moved to that point on the table and will then will only win if that number is thrown before a subsequent 7 is thrown. If the stake is moved to a 'number' on the table (4,5,6,8,9 or 10), waiting for the bet to be resolved by that number or seven to be played then these bets may remain for several rounds of play regardless of the game being in the 'come-out' or 'point' phases

Once placed these bets cannot be modified or removed from the table but are either lost or won

Don't Come Bet or Don't Come-out Bet

This even money bet can be placed at any point in a game. This bet will pay even money if on the next roll a 2 or 3 is thrown or will lose if 7 or 11 are thrown, and the stake will be returned (a 'push') if a 12 is thrown. If any other total is thrown (4,5,6,8,9 or 10) then the bet is moved to that point on the table and will then will only win if a 7 is thrown before that number is subsequently thrown. If the stake is moved to a 'number' on the table (4,5,6,8,9 or 10), waiting for the bet to be resolved by that number or seven to be played then these bets may remain for several rounds of play regardless of the game being in the 'come-out' or 'point' phases. Once placed these bets cannot be modified or removed from the table but are either lost or won.

Behind the Line or Odds Bet (Pass Line)

Once a Pass Line bet has been placed that wasn't resolved on the first throw (i.e. a point has been established) then a behind the line or odds bet may be placed ('taking the odds'). The odds bet may only be placed when a Pass line bet is in play. This bet has a zero house edge and is placed at odds of 6:5 when the point is a 6 or 8, 3:2 when point is a 5 or 9 and 2:1 for a 4 or 10. The Behind the Line bets are won if the Pass Line bet wins and loses if the Pass Line Bet loses.Behind the Pass Line Bets are placed on the cloth near to the rail, next to the pass line bets. OpenBet Craps will restrict the size of the Odds bets to double the stake on the pass line bet

Behind the Don't Pass or Laying the Odds Bet (Don't Pass Line)

Once a Don't Pass Line bet has been placed that wasn't resolved on the first throw (i..e. a point has been established) then a behind the don't win line or laying odds bet may be placed ('laying the odds'). The odds bet may only be placed when a Don't Pass Bar bet is in play. This bet has a zero house edge and is placed at odds of 5:6 when the point is a 6 or 8, 2:3 when point is a 5 or 9 and 1:2 for a 4 or 10. The Behind the Don't Pass bets are won if the Don't Pass Line bet wins and loses if the Don't Pass Line Bet loses.

Behind the Don't Pass Bar Bets are placed on the cloth in the "don't pass bar" section, next to the "don't pass" bets. OpenBet Craps will restrict the size of the "Behind the Don't Pass" bets so that the bet winnings will not be more than double the stake on the don't pass bet.

Behind the Come Bet

Once a Come bet has been placed that wasn't resolved on the first throw (i.e. 4,5,6,8,9 or 10 thrown, the "place numbers") then a behind the come bet may be placed. The behind the come bet may only be placed when a come bet is in play. During a come-out roll the Behind the Come bets will be on hold, should the come point be rolled then the behind the come bets will be voided or "pushed". This bet has a zero house edge and is placed at odds of 6:5 when the "come bet point" or "come point" is a 6 or 8, 3:2 when point is a 5 or 9 and 2:1 for a 4 or 10. The Behind the Come bets are won if the Come bet wins and loses if the Come Bet loses.

Behind the Come Bets are placed on the cloth next to the "come bet point" chips. OpenBet Craps will restrict the size of the Behind the Come bets to double the stake on the original come bet.

Behind the Don't Come

Once a Don't Come bet has been placed that wasn't resolved on the first throw (i..e. 4,5,6,8,9 or 10 thrown, the "place numbers") then a "behind the don't come" bet may be placed. The behind the don't come bet may only be placed when a Don't Come bet is in play. This bet has a zero house edge and is placed at odds of 5:6 when the point is a 6 or 8, 2:3 when point is a 5 or 9 and 1:2 for a 4 or 10. The Behind the Don't Come bets are won if the Don't Come bet wins and loses if the Don't Come Bet loses.

Behind the Don't Come Bets are placed on the cloth next to the "don't come bet point" chips. OpenBet Craps will restrict the size of the "Behind the Don't Come" bets so that the bet winnings will not be more than double the stake on the don't come bet

How to play

1. Consult the available bet types to decide where you wish to place your bet/s. The "Come" bet will be unavailable initially as the first dice throw is referred to as the "come-out" roll.

2. To begin a game, you must place at least one bet on the table; it is compulsory. Select a chip with a suitable value upon it from the bottom of the screen. The chip will rise and the edge of the chip will rotate, indicating that it has been selected for betting. Click on a bet area of the table to place a bet at the value of the chip selected. If desired, each additional click will add one unit of the chip value selected to the bet.

Click on a different chip at the bottom of the screen to change the chip value for betting. It is possible to mix chip values on the same bet. The total currency value will be displayed alongside the chip/s on the table. Undo, removes the last chip placed on the table. Clear, removes all bets from the table

3. Click on the Roll button to commence play.

4. The dice will be thrown and any winning bets will be paid immediately. If 4,5,6,8,9 or 10 have been thrown then the game will enter the next phase of the game, with a "point" established. In the case that a point has been established then a marker will be placed next to the total thrown. If no point is established the original status of the table is shown to allow placing of more bets

5. Based on the point established and bets placed on the table further bets will then become available to be placed. New bets could be placed before the dice are rolled for the next outcome. The game will remain in the 'point' phase until the dice rolled total a seven or the value of a point or until all bets have been won or lost.

Tip: You should familiarise yourself with the bet types available their particular nuances and the payouts they offer

6. If you choose to play on, or place further bets, click the ROLL button for subsequent rolls of the dice.
