What is Live Casino Blackjack?
Take a classic casino game, add a professional ‘human’ dealer and stream it all to your chosen desktop computer, laptop or mobile device. That, in a nutshell, is live blackjack, a thoroughly modern take on your favourite table game.
The rules are the same as you’d find in a land-based casino or in Paddy Power’s ‘standard’ version of the game, and the only difference is that a friendly dealer, with whom you can interact, is on hand to dish out the cards and thrust upon you any winnings that you might pick up.
It’s a fun way you to enjoy the excitement of blackjack in an immersive environment without having to peel yourself out of the armchair.
How to play Live Blackjack for Real Money
Did you know you can play blackjack for real money at Paddy Power? If you want to try to win some cash prizes, select your favourite game from our lobby. You’ll see how many seats are available at each table displayed on the thumbnail image, as well as the buy-in limits, which tend to range from $5 to $2500.
How to get started with Live Blackjack
Once you have selected your preferred live blackjack games, then the good times can roll… You will be taken to the game screen, where your friendly dealer will welcome you with a warm smile and a courteous greeting.
Then, let the battle commence!
How to bet in Live Blackjack
It’s the first decision you will make while playing live blackjack UK: how much you want to bet.
When you have decided, select the requisite amount using the on-screen controls. Once you are satisfied, the cards will be dealt and the excitement ratchets up a few notches. You will have further betting options as the game unfolds: hit, stand and double down, and of course you can split a pair too.
Once all players and the dealer have finished their hands, winning bets are satisfied and lost stakes taken.
Live Blackjack Side Bets
Depending on which variation of live dealer blackjack you have selected, you may have the opportunity to place a number of side bets away from the main action.
One example is 21+3, where you can wager on the outcome of your two cards and the dealer’s upturned card. The object is to make a strong three-card hand, with payouts ranging from 5:1 for a flush to 100:1 for a suited three-of-a-kind.
Other examples of live blackjack side bets include Royal Match (your two cards are ‘faces’ and suited), Over/Under 13 (the sum of your two cars) and Insurance, where you will be paid 2:1 if the dealer lands a blackjack.
Live Blackjack Rules, Strategy and Odds
For more on the rules and tactics of live blackjack, you can always read the strategy guides we have produced here at Paddy Power Towers.
The object, as ever, is to hit 21 with two or more cards. Blackjack (an ace and a ten or picture card) is the granddaddy of them all, and you can also score 21 points – or as close to it as possible – by hitting (the dealer hands you a card from the pack), splitting a pair and playing two hands or, most thrillingly, by doubling down: here, you double your bet amount in exchange for one more card.
The dealer also has a hand and they too are looking to get to 21 or as near as possible, and the player that does so – without ‘going bust’ by drawing 22 or more – wins the pot.
Remember, the house has a small edge in live dealer blackjack but, if you play sensibly and using a disciplined strategy, you can chip into this advantage. For reference, in the standard game, the dealer will win 48% of hands, the player 44% and 8% end in a ‘draw’. But that doesn’t mean in any given session you can’t turn the tables on the dealer!

How do Live Blackjack Games work?
In theory and in practice, live dealer blackjack games work the same as any other form of blackjack. As ever, the idea is to get a score of 21, or as close as possible, with your cards, beating the dealer and claiming the spoils.
So, all you need to do is place your bets, wait for the dealer to hand you your cards and then play on as normal. Are you going to hit, stand or double down?
If you bust, not to worry: you may have lost the battle, but that doesn’t mean you’ve lost the war. If you score 21 or close to it, the dealer will reveal their cards and play out their hand in the fashion they have been taught; you win some, you lose some.
And, so, really, this is the same old blackjack you know and love, simply brought to life in a live environment online.
LIVE BLACKJACK FAQ
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIVE BLACKJACK AND ONLINE BLACKJACK?
To the purist, there is only one difference: the presence of a professional dealer to keep the action flowing.
With live casino blackjack, there is a happy combination of verbal interaction and on-screen instructions, and so you can place your bets and say hit, stand etc out loud as if you were in the casino itself. Alternatively, if you are feeling anti-social, you can just use the on-screen buttons to play the game.
And that is the only difference between online blackjack and live dealer blackjack; the power is in your hands.
HOW CAN I CHOOSE LIVE BLACKJACK GAMES IN MY BUDGET?
We’re generous souls here at Paddy Power, and that’s why we have made sure we have live blackjack games for players of all budgets to enjoy.
When you head to the game lobby, you will see the buy-in amounts, both minimum and maximum, displayed in green on the image of each game.
That way, you can make a more informed decision about which table you want to be seated at; a real help if you have a smaller budget at your disposal.
